Services for external users (no members of Sapienza community)

Who are external users of the Sapienza Library System?

External users are all those who are authorised by the directors of the specific libraries on the basis of their respective regulations (scholars, professionals, teachers and students from other universities or educational institutions, etc.).

If your request concerns a specific library (for opening hours, borrowing, renewals, bookings and cancellations) please contact the library concerned.

How do I register as an external user?

In order to be registered as an external user, you need to contact a Sapienza library (the one you are most interested in) and make a request. The library will ask for your personal data and an identification document. Libraries are free to accept external users or not. The acceptance registered in one library is not binding for the others.

If your request concerns a specific library (for opening hours, borrowing, renewals, bookings and cancellations) please contact the library concerned.

I am an external user already registered, but when I ask to borrow a book from the Sapienza library catalogue, the system replies "You are not allowed to borrow from the library". What does this mean and what can I do?

When the message "You are not authorised to borrow from the library" appears, it means that the book you require is owned by a library where you are not registered as an external user. In this case, you can contact the library to ask if your registration can be extended to their services.

If your request concerns a specific library (for opening hours, borrowing, renewals, bookings and cancellations) please contact the library concerned.

I belong to another university, can I use or borrow books from the Sapienza libraries?

External users are entitled to use the services and bibliographic collections of the Sapienza libraries according to the regulations in force. An alternative way of borrowing a book is to ask your local library (not Sapienza one) for an inter-library loan or the document delivery service.

If your request concerns a specific library (for opening hours, borrowing, renewals, bookings and cancellations) please contact the library concerned.

I need some pages of a book/periodical. Can I have a scan?

You can request a scan of some pages of a book or periodical, in compliance with copyright regulations, by contacting the Sapienza library that owns the book/periodical. Find all contacts from the dedicated webpage.
