What is a borrowing?
Borrowing is the service that allows you to take a bibliographic resource (books, DVDs, etc.) out of a library for a certain number of days.

Can I borrow books from Sapienza faculties/departments other than mine?
Regardless of faculty of enrollment, you may borrow books or other bibliographic resources from any Sapienza library.

What is it possible to borrow?
In general, all resources owned by Sapienza libraries can be borrowed. There are some exceptions, such as periodicals, theses, encyclopedias, dictionaries, antique books, etc.

How can I know if a book can be borrowed?
Once a book or other resource has been found in the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue, you can check if the "Borrowing request" button is available through which send your request directly to the library.

How can I borrow books? (New procedure since August 28, 2021)
It is possible to borrow books through the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue. Once you have found a book or other resource just click on the "Borrowing request" button and enter your credentials.

How long can I borrow a book for?
Borrowing time length varies by library and resource type. The minimum borrowing time is 15 days. From your personal space in the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue it is possible to check current borrowings and expiration dates.

My borrowing is expiring. Can i keep the book a few more days?
A running borrowing can be renewed from your personal space by accessing the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue or by contacting the specific library via email. You cannot renew a loan if it has expired or if another user has reserved the book.

I have an expired borrowing, can I renew it?
No, you can’t. An expired loan cannot be renewed. Please, return the book to the library.

To return a borrowed book, just go to the library.

I am late with a book return, what happens?
If you are late with a book return, you must bring the book back to the library from which it was borrowed as soon as possible. The library will then apply a borrowing suspension of varying lengths according to the current policies.

The book I am interested in is already borrowed, what can I do?
From the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue it is possible to know if a book is already borrowed and for how long. In many cases it is also possible to reserve a book so that you will be notified when it is returned and will not be allowed to renew the loan.
